Margaret V. Stauner

 

Margaret V. Stauner, 97, of Medford, died on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, at the Marshfield Medical Center. 

 

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Whittlesey, WI at 11 am on Tuesday, April 21st.  Visitation will begin at 10 am at the Church.  Internment will be at the Willard Community Cemetery in Willard, Wisconsin.  The Very Reverend Father Patrick McConnell will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Ben Riker, Chris Stauner, Sarah Orr, Chad Lussier, Jed Ovyn and Jordan Ovyn.  Terra Lussier, Stephanie Denzine and Cindy Ovyn will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 

Margaret Viola Stauner was born in the Town of Greenwood, Taylor County,  on December 11, 1928 to Henry and Mary Klemm.  She attended Rib Lake area schools and graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1946.  She attended the Taylor County Normal School  and began teaching in the Medford area in 1948.  Her career in education lasted until 1987 and she earned a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.  Her teaching vocation impacted thousands of students who fondly remember Mrs. Stauner.

 

Margaret married Lawrence Stauner on October 30,1948.  He died on June 11,1949.  They had one son, Robert L. Stauner.

 

Margaret married John J. Stauner on May 28th, 1953.  They farmed in the Town of Greenwood until 1961 and then moved to Marshfield where she continued her teaching career in the first grade at Nasonville School.  Margaret and John had two children, Mary L Schultz and John B. Stauner.

 

After retirement Margaret and John moved to Mead Lake in Clark County.  John was deceased in 2001.

 

In 2022, Margaret became a resident of Country Gardens in Medford.

 

Margaret was passionate about numerous outdoor activities including gardening, berry picking and bird watching.  She always had fresh baked cookies available when the grandchildren visited  and enjoyed many games with them.

 

Margaret also loved animals.  She had numerous dogs and cats throughout her life and ardently fed wild birds during the entire year.

 

She was active in the life of the many Catholic parishes she belonged to and taught CCD for many years.  She took special pride in the achievements of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Terry) Schultz of Medford, WI, two sons, Robert (Rose) Stauner of Huntsville, AL and John (Nora) Stauner of Three Lakes, WI. and 8 grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter.

 

She was predeceased in death by her parents, her sister Barbara Wudi of Medford, WI, two brothers in infancy, her two husbands, and great-grandchild Gunnar Denzine of Medford, WI.
