Mary Jane Deml

 

Mary Jane Deml, age 94, of Medford, WI, passed away on her birthday, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Aspirus Country Gardens.

 

Mary Jane was born on June 30, 1932, in Abbotsford, WI, to the late Iver and Hana (Kramer) Johnson. She attended Holy Rosary School and was a graduate of Medford High School. Mary Jane was married to Joseph Deml on May 1, 1951, at Holy Rosary Church. They resided in the City of Medford until retirement in 1989, when they moved to Sackett Lake in the Town of Molitor. Mary Jane was a resident of Country Gardens.

 

Mary Jane was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Our Ladies of Holy Rosary, a member and an officer of the Royal Rough Riders Riding Club, West Side Trail Winders Snowmobile Club, as well as a charter member and officer of the Sackett Lake Association. She enjoyed sewing, painting, and crafts as her hobbies. She worked at Pechstein’s Shoe Store and was a lab technician at Foremost and Maple Island. Mary Jane and Joe spent 15 winters at their home at Mercedes, in the Rio Grande Valley of southern Texas.

 

Survivors include her sons, Daniel (Anna) Deml, of Wausau, WI, and Mark Deml, of Merrill, WI; her daughter, Jane (Kevin) Stuessy, of Minnetonka, MN; and long-time daughter-in-law, Linda Deml. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Sadie (Kyran) Deml-Hamill, of Eau Claire, WI, Josh Stuessy, of Minnetonka, MN, and Hana Stuessy, also of Minnetonka, MN; and her great-grandchildren, Simon and Sebastian Hamill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Iver and Hana; her husband, Joe; and her brothers, Norman (Betty) Johnson and Lloyd (Audrey) Johnson.

 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amanda and the great staff at Country Gardens and Hope Hospice for their caring support and help with Mary Jane including singing Happy Birthday to her at midnight. Many thanks to Father Patrick, Father Julian, and Father Brost. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Rosary School.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Holy Rosary Church in Medford, WI, at 11:00 AM. Fr. Patrick will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
