Barbara A. (Hederer) Carr, Colby, passed away peacefully at House of the Dove in Marshfield on July 3, just 5 days after the celebration of her 91st birthday.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 10 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford with Father Keith Kitzhaber officiating. Family and friends are welcome to greet the family from 9:30 am until the Christian funeral mass at 11:00 am. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby.
Barbara was born on June 29, 1935 in Marshfield to Wenzel and Marie (Weinert) Hederer. She attended schools in Marshfield and Unity. In 1954, she met Henry Carr on a blind date at the Colby Park and they were married two years later on September 1, 1956. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before Henry’s death in January 2020.
Barbara loved dancing at the Colby Park. Her love of polka music lasted her whole life. She enjoyed watching Mollie ‘B” and Daniel O’Donnell every Saturday night. Meeting Daniel O’Donnell in person at the Grand Theatre in Wausau was one of the highlights of her life.
Barbara was an excellent housekeeper and was always ready for company. There was always a freshly baked treat or candy in the candy dish for anyone who stopped by. She took pride in housekeeping and in her younger years cleaned and painted the homes of many Colby residents. She also worked several years at the Abby Inn in Abbotsford. Above all things, Barbara loved her family. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent many hours entertaining and being entertained by them all.
Barbara is survived by her children, Jim (Danielle) Carr and Julie (Scott) Decker as well as 5 grandchildren: Megan (Drew) Bitters, Tori Carr (Jon Ciezki), Mackenzie Carr, (Joel DeCaire), Michael Decker (Caroline Hansen), and Rylee Carr. She never thought she would see great grandchildren but was blessed with three wonderful additions to the family, Raegyn, Beau and Miles. Barbara is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Henry, as well as her brothers Harold and Donald Hederer and infant sister Ardella Hederer.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at the House of the Dove and Compassus Hospice for their kind and patient care of Barbara. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with arrangements.
