Thomas O. Kauer


  Thomas Oliver Kauer passed away on Monday, November 28.

  Thomas was born in La Crosse on May 4, 2016 to Matthew and Casey (Robers) Kauer. He spent his life bringing joy to others with his contagious smile.
  Thomas is survived by his parents, Matthew and Casey Kauer of Sparta; brother Dalton of Sparta; grandparents Ronald and Mary Kauer of Rib Lake; grandparents Michael and Brenda Robers of Tripoli; and numerous other uncles, aunts, and cousins.
  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday December 3 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake with Reverend Otto Bucher O.F.M. Cap officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday at the church from 9 AM until the time of service at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake.

Irene V. Peterson


  IRENE V. PETERSON, age 90, of Owen, WI, passed away at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, in Marshfield, WI, on Sunday, November 27, 2016.  Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Cuddie Funeral Home, in Loyal, WI, with Deacon Edward Kerr officiating.  Burial will follow in the Norwegian Cemetery in Curtiss, WI.  Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, on Saturday, from 11am until time of service.

     Irene Violet Poppy was born on October 15, 1926 in the Town of Richfield, Wood County, WI, the daughter of Johann Ferdinand and Elsie Amelia Sophia (Karsten) Poppy.  She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Town of Richfield.  Irene was united in marriage to George Clayton Peterson on March 12, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Sparta, WI.  They lived in several towns, before moving to Owen, WI in 1980.  Her husband, George, died on February 10, 1987.  Irene lived in Owen until the time of her death.
     She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends, watching birds and animals of all kinds, dancing, traveling, and Polka music.
     Irene is survived by three children: Carrie (William) Schultz of Sparta, WI,  George C. Peterson, Jr. of Owen, WI;  Ronald D. Peterson of Owen, WI;  5 grandchildren;  4 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two sisters, Elnora Schroeder and Doris Resler; and one brother, John Poppy.

Magdalene "Mitzie" Shewczyk


  Magdalene "Mitzie" Shewczyk, 98 of Gilman, died Friday,

November 25, 2016 at Miller Care in Thorp under Mayo Hospice.

Violet L. Anderson


  Violet L. Anderson, age 89, of Colby passed away Monday, November 21, 2016, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Marshfield.

  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby.  Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Colby Memorial Cemetery.

  Violet was born May 15, 1927, the daughter of Max and Dena (Spann) Krueger in Colby. She was united in marriage to Albin Anderson on June 18, 1946, at First Congregational Church in Colby. Together they farmed in the Town of Colby for 54 years.

  Violet enjoyed being a farmer's wife. She loved to bake, cook, and garden.

  Violet is survived by her cousins, Dorothy, LaVerne, and Carol; and many caregivers.

  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Albin on September 4, 2015.


Nila H. Kuck


  Nila H. Kuck, 88, Athens, died Saturday November 19, 2016 at Mountain Terrace Assisted Living under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

  She was born February 6, 1928, in the town of Halsey, daughter of the late Fred and Helen(Thurman)Nehrbass. On June 15, 1946, she married Carl H. Kuck at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. He preceded her in death December 25, 1995.

  Nila and Carl were dairy farmers in the town of Bern for 33 years, prior to their retirement. Nila was also a sales associate for Home Interiors and Gifts. Among her favorite things to do were gardening and sewing quilts.

  Survivors include her children, Nathalie(Dennis) Fladvid, Randall(Kathleen) Kuck and Richard (Julie) Kuck, all of Athens, grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Lipinski, Julie Fladvid, Jacquelyn (Michael) Thurs, Carla (Bradley) Staeben, Jason (Julie) Kuck, Justin (Shannon) Kuck, Jordan Kuck, Jeremy Kuck, a special grandson-in-law, Tom Peter, 13 great grandchildren, Olivia Punke, Carley & Brody Lipinski, Nicholas & Ryanne Peter, Taylor & Anthony Thurs, Kristopher & Lilah Staeben, Alexander Kuck, Mason, Nora & Korbin Kuck and one brother, Eldred(Mavis) Nehrbass, Athens, two sisters-in-law, Olga Kuck and Marion Oldenhoff.
  Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kristopher Kuck and four siblings, Alice Brill, Edna Krasonya, Marie Lange and Wilmer Nehrbass.

  Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 23, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Rev. Mark Schwalenberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Athens Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call today (Tuesday), from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Bradley T. Harrellson

  Bradley T. Harrellson, age 27, of Eau Claire, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his home.  A Remembrance Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.  Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.

  Bradley was born on July 26, 1989, the son of Edward Geiger and Pam Harrellson in Marshfield.  He graduated from Colby High School in 2007 and from Chippewa Valley Technical College from the Law Enforcement Academy in 2009.  Bradley joined the National Guard in 2010 and was an E-5 Sergeant with the HHC 1-128 and was a Military Analyst.  He worked for the City of Eau Claire as a Civilian Community Officer since 2013, and for the Village of Lake Hallie and the City of Cornell as a police officer.

  Bradley was a member of the Eau Claire Lodge #112 of the Free and Accepted Masons.  He also volunteered at Chippewa Valley Technical College helping instruct the new candidates.  Bradley enjoyed collecting coins, firearms and working on small engines.

  Bradley is survived by his father, Edward Geiger and his mother Pam Harrellson; six half brothers and sisters: Chris, Joe, Cathy, Russ, Russell and Becky; his godmother and Aunt, Penny Harrellson; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his uncle, Gerald.


Richard E. Edlund

  Richard E. Edlund, age 82, of Dorchester, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Golden Living Center - Continental Manor in Abbotsford.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Abbotsford Evangelical Free Church.  Pastor Michael Jahnke will officiate.  Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.  The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

  Richard was born on April 24, 1934, the son of Frank and Lillian (Sunwall) Edlund in Spirit.  He graduated from Tripoli High School in 1952.  Richard was united in marriage to Kathy Lee in 1972.  The later divorced in 1982.

  Richard farmed in Price County.  After he sold the farm, he moved to Dorchester where he worked at the Dorchester Feed Mill.  Richard enjoyed, hunting, fishing, trapping, snowmobiling and logging.

  Richard is survived by his brother, Eldon (Marie) Edlund of Chicago; nieces and nephews: Marlene (Tom) Schreiner of Medford, Robert (Sandy) Schilling of Medford, Loraine (Richard) Beaumont of Galesville and Paul (Holly) Edlund of Chicago.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Loraine Edlund and Evelyn Schilling.


Ervin O. Mohr


  Ervin O. Mohr, age 93, of Owen, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at his residence in Owen. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee. The Rev. Thomas Myhre will officiate. Inurnment will be in Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Town of Greenwood, Taylor County at a later date. Family and friends are welcome from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at the church on Saturday.

  Ervin was born on April 27, 1923, the son of Louis and Selma (Scheithauer) Mohr in the Town of Greenwood, Taylor County. He spent nine months in Alaska working on the highway, Ervin also worked for the Rib Lake Lumber Company sawing logs, and laid asphalt pillars for the railroad in Chicago. His last employment was a truck driver for Western Condensing, later known as Foremost Foods and now Kerry Ingredients in Owen from 1947 until his retirement in 1988.

  Ervin was united in marriage to Joan C. Hendrickson on June 27, 1947 at Saint Peter Lutheran Church in the Town of Greenwood, she preceded him in death.

  Ervin was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church and bowled in a bowling league at the 11th frame in Owen. He was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Ervin also loved to garden and tend to his lawn. Ervin and Joan loved to travel in their spare time.

  Ervin is survived by his three children: Cindy (Tony) Lopez of Arlington, TX, Shelley Mohr of Owen and Wendy (Brian) Uphoff of Palmetto, FL, five grandchildren; Jordan (Lindsey), Christine, Catherine (Parrish Miller), Matthew and Jaime and three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Davis and Mason. He is further survived by a niece; Pat (David) Blazer of Owen.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan on December 21, 2005, a son; Terrance, siblings; Dorothy, Millie, Betty, Suzie, Fritz, Harold, Edward and Edwin.

Lawrence E. Schmidt

  Lawrence E. Schmidt, age 88, of Colby, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.  A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby.  Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate.  Family and friends are welcome from 3:00 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home in Colby.

  Lawrence was born on March 20, 1928, the son of Elmer and Ida (Kolls) Schmidt in Illinois.  He was united in marriage to Martha Wiersma on January 30, 1949 in Alden, IL.  In 1959, they purchased a dairy farm in the Town of Colby and sold it in 1976.

  They moved into Colby and lived above the Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home and Furniture Store.  He worked for the funeral home, drove milk truck for Welcome Dairy, drove school bus, worked at Midwest Trucking, owned Schmidty's Bar for one year in 1981 and tended bar for Town and Country and the VFW in Colby.  Lawrence enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and pitched for many years and also umpired softball for many years.

  Lawrence is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha of Colby; eight children:  John (Bev) of Mondovi, Peggy Erickson of Leander, TX, Susie (Peter) Jecevicus of Colby, Linda Geiger of Colby, Rocky (Bobbi) of Colby, Jeri (Bill) Schmidt of Abbotsford, Judy (Mark) Sebold of Colby and Carol (Dan) Beyer of Medford; 26 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.  He is further survived by his brother, Joe (Janet) Schmidt of Casselberry, FL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward "Bud", his sister, Gertrude and a granddaughter, Amy.


Hubert "Hub" J. Apfelbeck


  Hubert "Hub" J. Apfelbeck, age 89, of Colby, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at The Waterford in Colby.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford.  Father Tim Oudenhoven will officiate.  Burial will be held in Abbotsford Public Cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

  Hubert was born on March 14, 1927, the son of Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Apfelbeck.  He was united in marriage to Lavonne Prucher on January 20, 1949 in Chippewa Falls.  She preceded him in death on October 13, 2013.

  Hubert was a truck driver for many years, including Morris Gierl and Melvin Companies both in Abbotsford and retired after hauling mobile homes for 31 years for Wick Building Systems in Spencer.  He enjoyed bowling, going to the casiono, camping and traveling.  Hubert especially enjoyed the winters with his wife in Florida.

  Hubert is survived by five children:  Michael (Pam) Apfelbeck of Rhinelander, Ronald (Diann) Apfelbeck of Chelsea, Sherri Leu (special friend, Ronald Poehnelt), James Apfelbeck (special friend, Karen Sebold) and Jeannie (Phil) Purdy all of Abbotsford; former son-in-law, Allen Leu of Abbotsford; eight grandchildren:  Kim Leu, Kristy (Allan) Bender, Kerry (Joe) Clements, Dana (Chris) Klauk, Heather (Dave) Brahm, Jason (Lacy) Apfelbeck, Mike (Carrie) Apfelbeck and Michelle (Jason) Kayhart; 16 great-grandchildren: Cody (Alyssa), Nick, Adeline, Georgia, Noah, Anya, Erika, Jaden, Catera, Coy, Jude, Grace, Josh, Devin, Logan and Jonah.    He is further survived by his nine brothers and sisters:  Rosemary Chris, Lucille Weber, Agnes Weber, Pat (Roy) Boneskee, Helen (Duane "Butch") Leu, Ray (Marlene) Bob (Darlene) Arnold (Evelyn) and Dorothy (Dave) Kramas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lavonne; three brothers and one sister: Leon, Bernice, Andrew and Claude.

Worked as a housewife/mother for most of her life. They owned & operated a mink ranch in the Town of Medford for a period of time. She enjoyed quilting, traveling to Nicaragua where she taught sewing & has a learning center named after her, making Amish dolls, bowling and painting. She was a leader of the Thrifty Go-Getters 4-H Club.
