Bernard “Bunny” Frank Nowacki, 86, of Medford, passed away at home on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Daniel Iwinski officiating. Burial will follow at Athens Village Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
Bernard was born on October 6, 1937 to Frank and Elma (Boneske) Nowacki in Athens. He attended Athens Schools. He married Bernice Roskopf on June 24, 1961 and she survives.
Bernard served in the US Army from 1957 – 1959. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany as a light weapon infantryman. After his service he dairy farmed until 1983. He then worked for Wanke Builders and later for Krueger Builders. He was a ginseng farmer until retirement, after which, he built a home in Medford. In his retirement he escorted truckers that pulled wide loads.
Bernard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with family.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Bernice, daughter, Christine (Joe) Kepner of Athens; granddaughters, Amy (Tyler) Bormann of Rhinelander and Dr. Mallory (Kevin) Lamb of Kirkwood, MO; great-grandsons, Garrett and Greyson Bormann. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Janice Roskopf, Karen (Larry) Meiller, both of Juneau, WI, and other family and friends.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lester.
