TAYLOR COUNTY BANDS TOGETHER TO CREATE OVER 2,000 FACE SHIELDS FOR THE COMMUNITY

TAYLOR COUNTY BANDS TOGETHER TO CREATE OVER 2,000 FACE SHIELDS FOR THE COMMUNITY

Colleen Handrick of Taylor County Emergency Management has been working closely with Aspirus of Medford in preparation for the Covid-19 pandemic in Taylor County.  Immediate needs for the Aspirus and EMS staff was N95 masks and face shields.  Colleen contacted WaDal Plastics in hopes of finding a local source to produce the face shields.   That’s when Sheldon Phillips, Engineering Manager at WaDal, contacted Tracer Imaging a customer of WaDal’s in pursuit of lenses for the shields.  Tracer Imaging donated 2,600 lenses for the project.  For the remaining components of the face shield, Sheldon reached out to local businesses which were more than happy to assist in his efforts.  During his search for components, Tracy Swedlund, science teacher at Medford Area Senior High was 3-D printing the face shield head band and was in pursuit of lenses.  The two paired up and are currently working with a team of Medford students and the High School to assemble the face shields over the next few weeks.  There are outstanding costs associated with this project so if you would like to donate to this project, please contact Sheldon Phillips at 715-965-0718.
