Larry D. Hershberger


 

LARRY D. HERSHBERGER

Age 76 of Rib Lake, former resident of Berlin, WI passed away on March 28, 2016 in Eau Claire after years long battle with heart disease.

  Larry was born on March 25,1940 in Albia, Iowa to Donald and Freda (Stocker) Hershberger. He moved from Iowa at the age of 11 to Wisconsin. Larry graduated from Wautoma High School in 1959. In 1991, Larry moved to Rib Lake and worked for Frank Bieniek for a period of time. He then worked for the Great Northern Cabinetry in Rib Lake before working for Weathershield Mfg. in Medford until his retirement. In his retirement he worked part time for County Market in Medford until ill health forced him to retire completely.
  Services for Larry will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake. Cremainal inurnment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.
Per Larry’s request his body has been donated to U.W. Madison for research.
  On October 26, 1968, Larry married Kathleen Trochinski at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Redgranite, WI and she survives. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake where he was an usher and a counter. Larry was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
  Before becoming ill, Larry enjoyed wood working, hunting, walking in the woods, watching the wildlife in the yard and mostly enjoying his grandsons.
  He is survived by his wife Kathleen Hershberger of Rib Lake, daughter Shelley (William) Burrier of Bloomer, son Andrew Hershberger of Appleton, grandsons Jakob and Landon Burrier of Bloomer, brothers Milton (Diane) Hershberger, Lonnie Hershberger both of Oshkosh, Thomas Hershberger of Berlin, sisters Maxine (Thomas) Mertens of Berlin, Jane (Dale) Schaumberg of Chippewa Falls and sister-in-law Linda Hershberger of Stevens Point. Larry is further survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many many friends.

  He was preceded in death by a daughter Sheila Hershberger, his parents Donald and Freda, in-laws Marcella and Carl Trochinski, brother Donald Hershberger and two sister-in-laws Carol Hershberger and Gail Trochinski.
  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Larry’s family to be designated at a later date.

Mae B. Ridderbush


 

Mae B. Ridderbush, Age 82, of Colby, passed away while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

  Her funeral service will be held at 3PM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. Vicar Don Bruce will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday at the church from 1:00PM until time of services. The honor of pallbearer belongs to her grandsons: Mike, Steve and Matthew Johnson, Bryan Beck, Christopher Brecke and Michael Perkins and John Beck as an honorary pallbearer. Private committal services will be held at a later date.

  Mae Belle was born on April 9, 1933 in the Town of Holton to Melvin and Leila (Wimer) Bremer. She attended school in Goodrich. Mae was united in marriage to Gene Ridderbush on February 12, 1955 at the Community Evangelical Church in Medford. Mae and Gene owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Abbotsford while raising their five children. Mae was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford.

  Her hobbies included word search puzzles, quilting, embroidery, gardening, cooking and canning. She thoroughly enjoyed farming and spending time in the barn with Gene. Upon her retirement from farming she worked at Phillips Plastics in Medford, until 1998. Mae loved spending time with her family especially at family gatherings.

  Survivors include her loving husband Gene Ridderbush of Colby, her five children: Dennis Ridderbush of Mobile, AL, Lynn (Dan) Beck of Phillips, Sherry (Dennis) Johnson of Abbotsford, Pamela (Kenneth) Geiger of Dorchester and Lori (Chris) Perkins of Athens; her sister Avis Lebeicki of LaCrosse and a brother Ronald (Marlene) Bremer of Medford. Mae is further survived by 11 grandchildren: Mike Johnson, John Beck, Steve Johnson, Bryan Beck, Christene  Burg, Matthew Johnson, Jenny Beck, Christopher Brecke, Stephanie Brecke, Michael Perkins and Brittany Perkins and 10 great-grandchildren Megan and Nicole Beck, Olivia and Garrett Burg, Abby, Stella and Natalie Beck, Madisen Johnson and Austin and Zayla Johnson along with other relatives and friends.

  Mae was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Melvin Bremer Jr. and a daughter-in-law Kris Ridderbush.

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: After High school, James joined the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years before moving to Milwaukee and attending Milwaukee School of Engineering. He then worked at Square-D in Milwaukee for 6years. James returned to Medford for a short period of time before re-enlisting in the U.S. Navy and serving 24 years total until his retirement. After his retirement from the military he returned to Medford. James had a passion for fishing and enjoyed his daily routine.

Kristina I. Knopp


 

Kristina Irene Knopp, 20, of Medford, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday March 23, 2016.

Kristina was born June 12, 1995, in Novocheboksarsk, Russia.

 

When Kristina was 13, she was adopted by the Knopp Family, who brought her to the United States on May 6, 2009. She was a 2013 graduate of Abbotsford Christian Academy, where she will be remembered as a fierce competitor who played basketball and volleyball.

 

Kristina was currently an employee of Phillips Medisize, having previously worked at Northland Outlet and Arbys in Medford. Kristina was a free spirit and a true “people person.” She loved to be surrounded with friends, family and especially little children. Her personality lit up a room, and she never knew a stranger. Kristina could see the good in everyone, and was extremely generous through her gift giving. Through her heart for children and generosity, Kristina helped start two schools for underprivileged children overseas. Kristina attended Abbotsford Evangelical Free Church where she helped in Sunday School, Nursery and the One Way Club, and was a member of L.I.F.T Youth Group.

 

Kristina is survived by her Parents: Richard and Susan Knopp of Medford, Siblings; Samantha (Joel Stark) Knopp of Madison, Jennifer(Chad Tutton) Knopp of Pensacola, FL, Benjamin Knopp of Marquette University, Milwaukee. Grandparents: Ruth Armbrust of Medford, Richard and Barbara Knopp of Sheboygan, Sharon Knopp of Lake Geneva, and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Kristina is further survived by her family in Russia, Father; Alexander Vasilievitch Tarenko, Brothers; Vasiliy and Alexander Tarenko.

 

She is preceded in death by her Grandfather Robert Armbrust, and Russian Mother Irina Kurbatovna Tarenko.

 

Kristina will be greatly missed by her Parents, Brother, Sisters, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and numerous friends, not only in the United States but all over the world.

 

Funeral services for Kristina will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday March 30, 2016 at the Abbotsford Evangelical Free Church, Abbotsford, WI. Pastors Mike and Bruce Jahnke Will officiate. Private graveside services will be held at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II, Medford, WI. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Tuesday March 29, 2016, at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel, and also from 9:30 AM – 10:45 AM, Wednesday March 30, 2016 at Abbotsford Evangelical Free Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Kristina Knopp may be given to Christian Aid Mission, through which Kristina helped at-risk children internationally. After he was discharged from the military, he resided in Great Falls, MT for a period of time, then moved to Medford. At the time of his death he was employed by Phillips Plastics Corp. in Medford. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, fishing, hanging out with his Marine Corps buddies & spending time with his children.

Arvin Louis Dommer


 

Arvin Louis Dommer, age 91, of Abbotsford, passed away on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016 in his home with the comfort of family by his side.  A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, with Rev. Mark Neumann officiating.  Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 11:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the church.  Burial will follow at the Colby Cemetery.  The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Arvin was born on June 11, 1924, the son of Carl and Dorothea (Hahn) Dommer in Hanks, North Dakota.   He returned with his family back to the Clark and Marathon county area in 1929 moving between several locations before the family established their farm east of Colby.  He attended school at Colby High, and graduated in 1942. Arvin and his brothers farmed together raising registered Holsteins for several decades under the name Arlendel Farms.

 

Arvin was united in marriage to Elsie Weis at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby after a 5 month courtship  The wedding occurred on May 20, 1961 so as to not interfere with spring planting or 1st cutting of hay.   Eleven months later the 1st of 6 children were born:  Shirley, Lorraine, Duane, Carl, Sharon, and Diane.  Arvin enjoyed taking car trips with the family every few years to visit relatives in Georgia, Texas, and North Dakota.  Arvin continued to farm with his children until health issues limited his ability to drive tractors and work in the barn.

 

Arvin was a long-term member of Zion Lutheran Church receiving confirmation in 1938 and then later participating in church functions for many years. After retirement from farming, he and Elsie moved to Abbotsford for the last 5 years.

 

Arvin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elsie; six children, Shirley (Jim) Walczak of Milwaukee, Lorraine (Francis) Wagner of Abbotsford, Duane (Fiancé Zane Renner) of Cedarburg, Carl of Colby, Sharon (Randy) Jagodzinski of Wausau, and Diane (John) Martin, DVM of Cedar Grove; six grandchildren; Rachel Wagner, Kristin Wagner, Elizabeth Wagner, Andrew Jagodzinski, Allison Jagodzinski, and Jacob Jagodzinski; and three step-grandchildren; Andrew, Kathleen, and Tim Walzcak.  He is further survived by a brother Delphin and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leona (Dommer) Fechhelm

Martha (Wilk) Korntved


 

Martha (Wilk) Korntved, age 90, died peacefully surrounded by family on March 20, 2016 at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN.

 

She was born on July 13, 1925 to Valentine and Veronica (Drozdowski) Wilk in Norrie, Wisconsin.  After marrying her husband, Donald Korntved on December 11, 1943, she moved to Unity, Wisconsin.  In 1974, they moved to Chetek, Wisconsin to be closer to their daughter, Judy.  The last ten years she was a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Stillwater, Minnesota. 


She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on October 13, 1980; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dale Aderhold; great-grandson, Jacob Tussey; and several sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. 

She is survived by sisters, Florence (Edward) Tryba and Adeline (Joe) Tryba; grandchildren Craig (Julie) Aderhold, Laura (David) Tussey, Pamela (Gary) Hansen, Tari (Chad) Christofferson, and Anthony (Kari) Aderhold; and great-grandchildren Lauren and Andrew Aderhold; Aleena, Noah, and Caleb Tussey; Breton, Nicholas, Nathan, and Luke Hansen; Joshua, Ethan, and Ana Christofferson; and Brooks and Reese Aderhold.

Thank you to the staff of Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Lakeview Hospital for the commendable care they provided Martha.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Martha’s funeral service will be held at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 26 at 11:00 A.M.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Town of Brighton Municipal Cemetery.

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: Following high school, Helen briefly worked in Milwaukee, then returned to Rib Lake and worked at the Medford Hospital as a nurses aide. Helen ran the family dairy farm, while her husband Joseph was driving truck over the road. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed traveling. She will always be remembered for her fantastic cooking, visitors would never leave her home hungry. Helen was a lady of style and grace and that was expressed in herself, her family and her home. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren; Helen put her heart and soul into everything she did.

She then moved to Medford and worked in the kitchen at Memorial Hospital as a baker and cooks helper until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed yardwork, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, snowmobiling, the Packers & Brewers.

Gilbert O. Cardinal


 

Gilbert O. Cardinal, 83, of Withee, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital in Weston. A Graveside Service with Military Honors provided by Lublin American Legion Post #547, Owen American Legion Post #123, Owen-Withee Vets Club and Thorp VFW Post #9057 will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 26 at Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon. A celebration of Gilbert's life will be held following the service from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Thirsty Squirrel in Owen. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

  Gilbert was born December 30, 1932, the son of John and Gertrude (Baumgarten) Cardinal in the Town of Grover. He was united in marriage to Janet M. Wood on September 20, 1958 at Nazareth Lutheran Parsonage. Gilbert was a Korean War Veteran, stationed in Germany. He worked for the Village of Withee Public Works Department for 33 years.
  Gilbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, recycling various parts and reading westerns. He was a charter member and long-time Financial Officer of Lublin American Legion Post #547, a member of the Owen-Withee Vets Club and the Thorp VFW Post #9057.
  Gilbert is survived by his wife, Janet, Withee; two daughters: Cindy Cardinal and Kathy Cardinal (Jim Barrett) both of Withee; three grandchildren: Timothy Day, Gilman, Angela (Brian) Welsh, Gilman and James (Carlie) Cardinal, Ripon; three great-grandchildren: Logan, Maya and Naomi Welsh. He is further survived by one brother and three sisters: Alvina Judycki, Missouri, Lyle (Linda) Cardinal, Missouri, Elaine Oldham, Florida and Florence (Dennis) Fischer, Wausau, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters: Lester, Audrey, Lawrence, Helen and Ronald.
  The family would like to send a special thanks out to the girls on 1W at the Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center. They became his 2nd family with the excellent care they gave him over the last few months.

Arnold "Arnie" E. Strunk, Age 95, of Abbotsford passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen with his dog, Suzy by his side.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 19 at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.     Burial will follow in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the church.  The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

  Arnie was born September 8, 1920, the son of Erhard and Malinda (Hinke) Strunk in Kenosha.  He moved to the Town of Johnson at an early age and attended Corinth Country School.  Arnie was united in marriage to Beatrice "Pete" C. Dahlke on October 18, 1947 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar and were married 63 years.  She preceded him in death on October 14, 2010.

  Arnie farmed in the Town of Johnson and also hauled milk.  Later, he worked for the city of Abbotsford in the public works department for 15 years.  He enjoyed animals, including feeding the deer, turkeys, bears and raccoons on his land in the Town of Hamel.  Arnie also liked tending to his raspberries, potatoes and tomatoes.   He especially loved his Shih tzu dog, Susie.  Arnie was a kind and gentle man who was well liked by all who knew him.  

  Arnie is survived by his sister, Margaret "Mike" Oehler of Mosinee and brother, Harold Strunk of Kenosha; three sisters-in-law:  Gertrude Karlen of Edgar, Anne Dahlke of Edgar and Myrtle Pflanzer of Colby; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: Alfred, Walter and William and his sister, Anna Miller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Saint Bernard's Catholic Church or the Humane Society.

  Nancy Gosse, age 54, of Medford passed away on Friday, March 11th.

  Survivors include her husband, Steven Gosse, her mother-in-law Carol Gose of Medford, her son, Davis and Jessica Gosse of Medford, one daughter, Tracy, Mrs. Richard Price of Stetsonville.  She is further survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Ila Mae Markus


 

Ila Markus, age 81, of Marshfield, peacefully went home Friday, March 11, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church (207 S. Cherry Avenue) in Marshfield.  Visitation will be held at Hansen Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, and again one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.  Burial will take place at McMillan Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshfield.

 

 Ila was born on February 10th, 1935, the daughter of Russel and Garnet (Hepfer) Welch in the village of Gilman, WI. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1953, and then went on to attend Eau Claire Technical School graduating with a Secretary Certification.  Her career highlights include working as a secretary to the county nurse in Medford, working as a medical transcriptionist at the Taylor County Memorial Hospital and then in the same capacity at Marshfield Clinic, and finishing her career working for 10+ years for Bill Heiting at New York Life Insurance Company in Marshfield.

 

 On May 22nd, 1971, Ila was united in marriage to the love of her life David Markus at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, WI.  Ila & Dave became proud parents to their daughter Laurie on October 31st, 1972, and proud grandparents to Mitchell Markus Schade on April 22nd, 2005, & Bryce David Schade on October 10th, 2007.

 

 Ila enjoyed gardening, canning, painting, embroidering (loved to paint with thread!) making floral arrangements, making cakes for special people and special occasions, and spending time with family & friends.  She took special pride in sharing her talents with those she loved.   Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandsons’ Mitchell & Bryce attending their soccer, baseball, basketball, and football games and watching them grow.  Those that knew Ila the best will miss her kindness, her resilience, her patience, her generosity, and most of all the love she had for her family.  Her extended family will miss her every day and especially each year at Thanksgiving which was such an important holiday to her.  Dave, Laurie, Mike and the boys will especially miss cool fall nights on the deck at Laurie and Mike’s watching the geese fly over.

Roderick "Rod" L. Cook, age 99, of Colby passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby.  Father Peter Manickam will officiate.  Interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

  Rod was born July 14, 1916, the son of Raymond and Ida (Loughead) Cook in Unity.  He graduated from Unity High School in 1934.  Rod was united in marriage to Leona Steinwand on June 7, 1937.    She preceded him in death on August 13, 1991.  Rod was united in marriage to Alice (Bowman) Bender on May 20, 1992.  He was a farmer and a businessman.

  Rod was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus including service as Grand Knight.  He also was the mayor of Unity, alderman for the city of Colby and a member of the Colby District School Board.

  Rod is survived by his wife, Alice of Colby; four sons: David (Virginia) of Evansville, IN, Michael (Juanamaria) of Columbia, MO, Gary (Monica) of Statesville, NC, and Kevin (Pamela) of Whitehouse Station, NJ; 17 grandchildren:  Patrick (Pamela) Cook, Paula (Frank) Kepes, Joseph (Lisa) Cook, Julia (Curt) Zella, Angelique (Adam) Clapper, Christopher (Peggy) Cook, Nick (Theresa) Cook, Alexander Cook, Todd (Jennifer) Cook, Jennifer Cook, Michelle Fox, Renee (Joel) Blazer, Darrell (Missy) Cook, Ryan (Michelle) Cook, Lauren (Ben) Ellert, Justin Cook and Aaron Cook; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren (Joan) of Hayward; a sister, Jean of Owen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He is further survived by Alice's children:   Diane (Steve) Bauer, Duane Bender, Dan (Debbie) Bender and Dean (Sue) Bender; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed playing sports especially wrestling, softball and bowling, and was a member of several softball and bowling leagues in the area. He had a passion for the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish, and snowmobile. Aaron loved his Black Labrador, Nala.

While farming he also hauled cattle until selling the farm in 1976 when he went to work for Weather Shield until retirement in 1985. He served on the Lakewood Credit Union board for over 40 years. He enjoyed visiting with people, bowling, dancing, playing sheepshead, his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

Merceda "Marcy" E. Smart, age 86, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at the Colonial Center in Colby.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.  Father Peter Manickam will officiate.  Interment will be held at a later date at the Abbotsford Cemetery. Marcy was born on August 19, 1929, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth (Salzmann) Riehle in Athens. She attended Athens School.  On October 13, 1945 Marcy married the love of her life Lea Alfred Smart at St. Bernard's Catholic Church.  They just recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

 

Marcy enjoyed being a homemaker all her life and raising her children.  She was very active with the St. Bernard's PCCW, and St.Dorothy's Circle.  During her free time she enjoyed shooting pool, crocheting, playing cards, knitting, and making crafts.  Most of all, Marcy loved it when her grandchildren would come to visit.

 

Marcy is survived by her husband: Lea; seven children: Calvin (Susan) of Crossville, TN; Larry of St. Petersburg, FL;  Janice (Terry) Ludwig of West Bend; Diane Zier of Amherst; Carol (James) Stauner of Marshfield; Bernice Grajek of Las Vegas, NV; and Russell of West Allis; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.  She is further survived by four brothers: Donald of Edgar, Leroy (Doreen) of Edgar, Clement of Abbotsford and Leonard (Karen) of Colby, and also a sister: Mary Jane Seliger of Edgar and many nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings: Loretta, Joseph, Wilford, and Elizabeth; two sons-in-law: Daniel Zier and Jeff Grajek.

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: Elmer worked for the Town of Rib Lake and drove the road grater, he retired after 30 years. He also owned his own farm. He loved working in his garden, and in the woods cutting firewood. He was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Years ago, he also drove part time for Bauer Trucking, Medford. He enjoyed Nascar Racing, traveling, history & boating.

Steven J. Brown


 

Steven J. Brown, age 63, of Colby, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2016 at the Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Colby.  Father Peter Manickam will officiate.  Military Honors provided by the Lublin American Legion Post #547, Owen American Legion Post #123 and Owen-Withee Vets Club.  Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.  The Rosary will be recited at 3:45.  There will also be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

 

Steve was born on June 5, 1952, the son of Nester and Betty (Haggerty) Brown in Janesville.  He was raised by foster parents, Ned and Vanje Weber.  He attended Janesville Public Schools and Nicollet Technical College in Rhinelander.  Steve proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1969-71.  On May 8, 1976, he was united in marriage to Debra Porath.  She preceded him in death on April 30, 1996.  On February 16, 1999, Steve was united in marriage to Nancy Schuh in Neillsville and the marriage was then blessed at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen.

 

Steve was a self-employed carpenter and a nurses' aide for the Clark County Health Care Center.  He was a member of the Owen-Withee Vets Club.  Steve loved woodworking, model cars, camping, hiking, fishing, campfires, cribbage, auctions, playing guitar, singing and the northwoods.  He also volunteered including playing Santa Claus, singing at nursing homes and serving communion to shut-ins.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family and will dearly be missed.

 

Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy of Colby; his daughther, Nina (Don) Watkins of Bear Creek; three step-children:  Lesa Hawkey of Colby, Jason Searer (Jennifer Frankewicz) of Colby and Julie Searer of Abbotsford; two grandchildren:  Allyssa Gibson and Matthew Watkins; eight step-grandchildren:  Logan and Morgan Hawkey, Cadence, Jase and Alexis Searer, Kaylee, Evan and Marcus Garcia.  He is further survived by four brothers and two sisters:  Richard of Edgerton, Nancy (James) Kassien of Boulder Junction, Michael (Sue) of Montello, Diane (Don) Kassien of Owen, Doug (Linda) of Jefferson and Daniel (Kim) of Edgerton; Mother-in-law, Lorraine Porath of Owen; foster father, Ned Weber; his rescue dog, Cheyenne; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Debra; his step-son, Norman "Bucky" Searer, two brothers and two sisters:  Jerry, Sandra, Dolores and David; father-in-law, Ed Porath; niece, Jessica Porath and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anthony and Geraldine Schuh

Myrtle M. Prestebak


 

Myrtle M. Prestebak, age 88, of Dorchester passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Golden Living Center - Continental Manor in Abbotsford.

 

A Funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dorchester.  Reverend Gary Lodholz will officiate.  Family and friends are welcome from 9:30 AM until the time of service Friday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Dorchester is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Myrtle was born on July 22, 1927, the daughter of William and Martha (Beilfuss) Kellner in Dorchester.   Myrtle was united in marriage to Joyce  "Joe" Prestebak on May 29, 1954 in Dorchester.

 

Myrtle graduated high school from Dorchester, and receive her Bachelor of Science from UW Stevens Point in Education.  She taught children for over 30 years in the Abbotsford area.

 

Myrtle enjoyed quilting, she was a member of the Curtiss Quilt Club.  She was also a member of the Marshfield Area Retired Educators, and the Clovernook Homemakers Club.  Myrtles faith was important to her, she was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the choir, altar guild, ladies aid, and teaching as a Sunday school teacher.         

 

Myrtle is survived by her four children:  John of Dorchester, Alan (Pam) of Dorchester, Jean (Brian Schmeiser) of Abbotsford, and Steven of Dorchester; 4 grandchildren: Kristi (Aaron) Ruggles of Owen, Kari Erdman of Rozellville, Megan (Tanner) Nussbaum of Kaukauna, and Max Prestebak of Appleton;  and 2 great-grandchildren: Easton and Jordy.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Joyce; her parents, and her siblings: Raymond Kellner, Frieda Eurick, Viola Weidman, and Walter Kellner.
