Donald R. Thorne


 

Donald R. Thorne, age 89, of Owen, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Rev. Nancy Amacher will officiate. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Military Honors provided by theLublin American Legion Post #547, Owen American Legion Post #123 and the Owen-Withee Vets Club.

 

Donald was born September 8, 1925 the son of Charles and Bernice (Pyatt) Thorne in Riplinger. He was united in marriage to Harriet Hemminger on October 20, 1946 in Owen, Wisconsin. Donald and Harriet were married for 68 wonderful years. She preceded him in death on January 8, 2015.

 

Donald served this country during world war II in the US Army. He was stationed in the Philippines and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked for Master Packaging for many years and retired from the Owen-Withee School District as a custodian after almost 20 years. Donald also was a farmer and a carpenter.

 

Donald is survived by his three children: Jerrold (Diana) Thorne, Aaron (Kay) Thorne, and Arlyn (Holly) Thorne; 13 grandchildren: Erik Thorne, Sarah Thorne, Adam Thorne, Amy Thorne, Stacey Thorne, Mike Darnell, Anna Darnell, Allen (Kayla) Thorne, David Thorne, Doug (Leah) Spence, Stacy Jossart, Jay Pritzl (Heidi), and Kristopher Reinking; and 11 Great-Grandchildren: Mason, Savannah, Ryan, Rachel, Katelyn, Jacob, Charles, Noel, Olivia, Alyssa and Trenton. He is further survived by a sister Joyce (Arnold) Ellis.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife: Harriet; his parents; and two brothers: Floyd (Jeanette) Thorne, and Wilbur (Marjorie) Thorne.

Michael W. Brey


 

Michael W. Brey, age 54, of Marshfield, formerly of Colby, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 31 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby with a Rosary Service at 5:00 PM and from 10:00 AM until time of service Wednesday at the church.

 

Michael was born on August 2, 1960, the son of Daniel and Marilyn (Devine) Brey in Marshfield. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Colby High School in 1978. Michael attended UW-Marshfield and UW-Eau Claire studying accounting. He worked for various businesses as a bookkeeper.

 

Michael enjoyed the theatre and was active in the Showcase Players in Colby and the Campus Community Players at UW-Marshfield. He participated in cross country, Cherokee Chum 4-H showing chickens and woodworking and played the tuba in high school. Michael also enjoyed watching sports, drinking Pepsi and eating chocolate.

 

Michael is survived by his father, Daniel Brey of Colby; six sisters and one brother: Deborah Brey of Colby, Diane Brey of Appleton; Sally (Robert) Crane of Stevens Point, Gary (Vicky) Brey of Appleton, Doreen (David) Hebert of Spencer, Kathleen (Joseph) Conley of Marshfield and Judine Brey of Eau Claire; ten nieces and nephews: Joshua, Amy and Nicholas Crane, Kevin and Kelly Brey, Daniel, Marcella and Steven Hebert and Anthony and Theodore Conley. He is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn and his grandparents.

 

A very special thank you to his extended family at Golden Horizons in Marshfield for their loving care and making Michael a part of their family these past 10 years.

John Tyler Rau


 

Tyler John Rau, 22, of Abbotsford, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. Reverend James Babler will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Stetsonville.

 

Tyler was born on November 12, 1992 to Tim and Jill (Martinson) Rau in St. Croix Falls. He is a 2011 graduate of Abbotsford High School. He was currently enrolled at UW Eau Claire perusing a degree in information Technology program. He loved anything to do with computers. In his free time he enjoyed reading and pursuing a black belt in karate.

 

Tyler, on a family trip this last winter, found a passion a snowboarding. When the rest of the family just couldn't snowboard very well, Tyler was a natural.

 

Tyler is survived by his parents; Tim and Jill Rau of Abbotsford, a sister; Courtney Rau of Abbotsford, 2 brothers; Dakota Rau and Logan Rau of Abbotsford; Grandparents; Arlene Rau of Dorchester, and Chuck and Doris Martinson of Amery, 9 uncles; Dave (Kitty) Rau of Dorchester, Richard Rau of Dorchester, Wayne (Donna) Rau of Dorchester, Dan (Chris) Rau of Abbotsford, Randy (Patti) Rau of Dorchester, Pat (Stephanie) Rau of Suamico, Eric Martinson of Osceola, Phil (Michelle) Martinson of Amery, and Scott (Michelle) Martinson of Minnesota and also an aunt Jody (Al) Hubred of Amery. He is also survived by many cousins, other family, and friends.

Tyler was preceded in death by his grandfather; George Rau.

Velva A. Engel


 

Velva A. Engel, age 74, of Abbotsford, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 in a traffic Accident. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2 , 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, WI. Reverend James Babler will officiate. Burial will be held in Saint Peter Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of McMillan. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Velva was born on March 1, 1941 the daughter of Harold and Agnes (Carl) Bach in Marshfield, WI. She was united in marriage to Walter Engel on September, 3 1960 in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2015. They moved to Abbotsford, WI in 1971.

 

Velva enjoyed shopping. Everything from shopping from magazines, to finding a good deal at a garage sale. During her free time she enjoyed reading. Velva never missed her grandchildren's ballgames. She was their number one fan.

 

Velva is survived by 2 children: Walter J. Engel Jr., Salem, OR,
Debera Schneider, Racine, WI grandson; Shawn Tendeland, Oconomowoc, special family: Manuel (Candi) Gamillo, Manny Jr., Sarah and Fransisco Gamillo, sister; Janet (Jerry) Okane of Madison; a sister-in-law; Kathy Bach of Chili and a brother; James Bach of Stratford. She is further by two sister-in-laws: Darlene Schaperkoetter and Sharon (Charles) Jung of Mascoutah, IL and a brother-in-law August (Margarett) Engel of Alaska, , three nieces and two nephews and 6 great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Walter, her parents, Walter parents, and two brothers.

Gladys Irene Marcott


 

Gladys Irene Marcott, 83, of Abbotsford, passed away at her residence in Abbotsford. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Curtiss Missionary Alliance Church in Curtiss with the service at 2:00 PM. Reverend Carl Swarr will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss.

 

Gladys was born December 16, 1931 in Waubay, South Dakota, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Pierce) Krause. She received her education at Waubay Schools and was a 1949 graduate of Waubay High School. Gladys attended the Saint Paul Bible Institute in Minnesota and worked at the Dessie Scott Children's Home in Pine Ridge, KY. On August 7, 1965 she was united in marriage to Wilfred Marcott at the Owen Alliance Church in Owen, WI. She lived on the Marcott family farm in the Town of Mayville.

 

Gladys worked at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford and Kramer's IGA in Abbotsford for a number of years and at the Colonial Living Center in Colby as a member of the activity team until her retirement. She enjoyed helping the elderly with their housekeeping and getting their groceries.

 

She was a member of the Curtiss Alliance Church and she loved to read the bible, tend her flower garden and above all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

 

Gladys is lovingly survived by her children; Donald (Shirley) Marcott of Weston, Susan (John) Milbeck of New Berlin and Burdella (Bill) Blumenstein of Rib Lake, 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and cherished friend; George Eloranta.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Wilfred and sons; Arthur, Robert and Richard Marcott .

Lillian M. Klemm


 

Lillian M. Klemm, age 85, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

Lillian was born on April 25, 1929 in Rib Lake to William and Rose (Roiger) Tilch. In June of 1950, Lillian was married to Irving “Buck” Klemm. Together they moved to Menomonee Falls where they made their home for 25 years. While living in Menomonee Falls, Lillian worked at Briggs & Stratton for 21 years and raised their four children. In 1986, Buck and Lillian retired up to the Pier Willow Region. She and Buck belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where they were very devoted and active. Throughout her life, she loved gardening & canning, and enjoyed the great outdoors, but the most important thing to her was her family and her devotion to her church.

Lucy A. Geiger, 96, of Abbotsford formerly of Dorchester, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. Father Charles Hiebl will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the time of service on Monday. Inurnment will be held in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery following the service.

 

Lucy was born on January 3, 1919 to Richard and Lucy (Leimkuehler) Keller in La Valle, Sauk County, Wisconsin. She attended catholic schools and married Clarence Geiger on May 18, 1937 at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1986. They farmed in the Township of Mayville, Dorchester until 1972, when they moved to the Village of Dorchester.
Lucy worked at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford and at the Dorchester Elementary School as a cook.

 

Lucy enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and working on the farm.

 

Lucy was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

 

Lucy is survived by her children: Dale (Donna) Geiger of Dorchester, Richard Geiger of Washington and Janice (Roger) Schmelzer of Burlington, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and her brother: Ed (Helen Marie) Keller of Elk Grove Village, IL. She is further survived by her nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She enjoyed taking trips with the Homemakers Tour Group and her husband and grandchildren. Minnie also taught leatherwork in the 4-H. She also enjoyed gardening.

Roger A. Nichols


 

Roger A. Nichols, 73, of Gilman, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at

Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born on October 4, 1941 to the
late Alfred and Angeline (Willger) Nichols. Roger graduated from
Gilman High and served his country in the Army. On July 27, 1968
he married Veronica “Ronnie” Kowal.

 

  The couple lived in Racine for many years with Roger working at J.
I. Case transmission plant. After Roger retired the couple moved
to Gilman where they have lived since. Roger was a family man
and was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting and fishing.

 

  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ronnie of Gilman, one son,
Robin (Natalie) Nichols of Racine and their children Beau and Bret
Nichols and one daughter, Rona (David Martin) Nichols of Racine
and their children, Mariah Fatla and Taylor, Alyssa and Dakota
Martin. Roger is further survived by his siblings, Gary (Patti)
Nichols of Deer Park, WI, Bonnie (Paul) Johnson of Gilman and
Dale (Barb) Nichols and Keith (Judy) Nichols both of Eau Claire
and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

  A memorial mass will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 28,
2015 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father
Madanu Sleeva officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time
of service Saturday at the Church. Plombon Funeral Service-
Gilman is assisting the family. A reception will follow the mass in

Marvin Paul Rininger


 

Marvin Paul Rininger, 77, of Edgar, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on March 20, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Born March 16, 1938 in Akron, Ohio to Clarence and Doris Rininger, he lived most of life in the central Wisconsin area.

 

  Marvin is survived by his wife Linda of 25 years, daughters Sherri White, Polly Becker, Kelly Humpal, Tammy (Mark) Henrichs, Beth (Don) Pachniak, Leslie (Justin) Brown and son Mark (Sherry) Rininger, sisters Naomi (Wilbur) Borland, Jean Meehan, Janet (Steve) Rutledge, brothers Harold (Louise) Rininger, Alan Rininger, Dale (Sandy) Rininger, Philip (Ellen) Rininger, Gary (Lisa) Rininger and loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Marvin was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to all.

 

  He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Doris Rininger and brother, Darrell
Rininger.

 

  Marvin loved bowling and playing cards. He was an entrepreneur most of his life and worked as a cashier at the Abbyland Truck Stop in Curtiss for the last 11 years until his retirement in January of this year. Albert H. Meier


 

Albert Harrold Meier, age 81, was called to his heavenly rest on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at his home in Spirit, WI. Albert was born December 19, 1933, in a log cabin in the Town of Spirit to Carl and Olga (nee-Harrold) Meier.

 

Albert attended grade school at Liberty School in the Town of Spirit and graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1951. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Army. He served three years, learning Russian and translating intercepted Russians messages while attached to the National Security Agency (NSA) in Fort Meade, MD.

 

After his service, Albert farmed with his father. In 1977 he married Carol Schultz of Athens, WI, continuing to farm until 1995. Albert was a dairy farmer who took pride in his herd of Guernseys. As a young man he trapped furs and he logged throughout his life. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

Albert was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Spirit where he regularly worshipped his Lord and served in various capacities. Through the years he served on the boards of DHI, Badger Breeders and Morning Glory as well as serving as president of the Spirit 4H Fair Committee for 25 years. He was also a volunteer fire warden for many years.

 

Albert was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister Rosalie. He is survived by his wife, his two children, Dorothy (Cody) Grivno of Slinger, WI and Albert Meier II of Jackson, MI, two grandchildren, one sister, three brothers and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Spirit. Visitation will be held at 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Hemer Funeral Home in Rib Lake and also from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Spirit with Rev. James Heffner officiating.
Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in the Town of Spirit.

Ruth Jankee, age 95, of Owen passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Clark County Health Care Center.

 

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dorchester. Reverend Terry Schneider will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until the time of service Saturday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

Ruth was born on August 02, 1919, the daughter of Edward and Amelia (Netzel) Petke on the family farm in Withee, WI.

 

Ruth was united in marriage to Arthur on July 19, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee.

 

Together they farmed in the Township of Hoard for 30 years. Ruth wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty, she helped with the chores in the barn, field work, and the remodeling homes. In her free time she enjoyed baking, cooking, and praying with her family, dancing with her husband, or reading her bible.

 

Ruth is survived by her three sons; Daniel (Patricia) Jankee of Cadott, David Jankee of Owen, Emil Jankee of Owen and her daughter, Marlene (Tyler) Turner of Owen; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister; Gertude Rohland.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents, her daughter, Dorothy (Aaron) Thorne, her sisters and brothers, and three grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea and Tyler Turner.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially to the Western States. She was an avid collector of “BEARS”. A bear named “Teddy” was her constant companion.

Tootie (Edith) Engel, 88, of Dorchester, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Abbotsford. Family and friends are invited to a birthday and life celebration of Tootie, on Friday, March 13 at the RJ Stockwell Auction Site, North of Dorchester on STH 13 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday , March 14, 2015 at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Rosary will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday and visitation following until the time of service. Inurnment will be held in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

 

Tootie was born on March 13, 1926 to Albert and Lena (Gamper) Amo. She attended Medford Schools and married LeRoy Engel on June 14, 1944. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1974. They farmed in the Township of Mayville, Dorchester on LeRoy's family farm until 1974.

 

Tootie worked for Gorke Bus Service as a bus driver. She also waitressed for The Plantation Supper Club in Medford, and Scidmore's in Curtiss. Tootie managed the concession stand at the Dorchester Park during the summer, for ballgames and tournaments for several years. During her free time she enjoyed watching children in the area, and brought humor to their lives. But most of all, Tootie will be remembered for her quick wit and many sayings.

 

Tootie is survived by 7 children: Terry (Melvin) Deml of Edgerton, Susie (Jim) Newcomb of Edgerton, Barb (Jeff) Bublitz of Edgerton, Cathy (Allan) Peissig of Stetsonville, Dennis Engel of Dorchester, Beaner (Randy) Stockwell of Dorchester, and Jaycine (Gary) Geiger of Dorchester; 29 grand-children, 67 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her three sisters: Inez Loertscher of Medford, Odile Wollum of Colorado and Norma Riegert of Medford; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Pearl E. Olson, 96, Medford, died on Friday, February 13, 2015, at the Aspirus Memorial Nursing Home, Medford.

 

She was born on July 27, 1918, in the Township of Ogema, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Lukes. She spent most of her life in the Price County area.

 

She was married to Elmer Olson on February 26, 1937, in Catawba They celebrated over 72 years of marriage together. Elmer preceded her in death on April 6, 2009. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the Ogema area for many years prior to their retirement.

 

In her free time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, reading, gambling, and especially spending time with her family and friends

 

She is survived by 3 daughters: Colleen (Bill) Hartwell, Mission, Tx., Jeanette (Manny) Bolz, Baraboo, Wi., and Florence (Dan) Makovsky, Medford, Wi., by 3 sons: Leland Olson, Catawva, Bryan (Pat) Olson, Phillips, and Alan Olson, Spokane, Wa., by 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 6 great- great grandchildren..

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Elmer, by 2 brothers: Donald and Dennis Lukes, by 2 sisters: Ruby Brantner and Katherine Nussberger, by 2 grandsons: Clyde and Ron Olson, and by 1 daughter-in-law Jane Olson.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Heindl Funeral Home, Prentice,, with Pastor Jody Becker officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Ogema, at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. on Saturday March 14, 2015 until the time of the service.

He loved to spend time with his family, children and grandchildren. He worked for Tombstone Pizza for the last 15 years.

MARRIAGE: Gertrude Martha(Graumann) Lemke on June 23, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rib Lake, WI. She preceded him in death in 2004.

 

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: Rudolph truly was a jack of all trades. Soon after marrying Gertrude, he owned a sawmill in Holcombe, WI for a period of time, then moved to Goodrich and began farming. While farming in Goodrich he also ran a small saw mill, and went from farm to farm custom chopping. He helped construct the gas pipeline that ran from Ladysmith to Rib Lake, WI. He also helped build St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Goodrich in 1962. He then started logging, and logged until the age of 87. His favorite time of year was deer season. He enjoyed going dancing with his wife and playing “Sheepshead” with his friends on Friday night. He also enjoyed taking his children fishing as they were growing up. Very rarely did he ever hire someone in to fix something for him, he did all of his projects on his own, including remodeling his home. Rudolph’s faith was extremely important to him, and never missed a Sunday in church.

 

MEMBER OF: Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 30 years, President of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Goodrich until 1973, and was a member of the Washington School Board.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing cribbage, the Green Bay Packers, Alan Jackson music & helping people out in their time of need.

Carlton "Carl" Pecher, 72, of Abbotsford, passed away March 6, 2015 at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor of Abbotsford.

 

Carlton was born September 25, 1942 to Frank and Viola (Zettler) Pecher in Marshfield, WI. He worked as a carpenter all his life. Carl married, Loretta Wiese April 20, 1963 in Abbotsford, WI.

 

Carl is survived by his wife Loretta; 3 children: Forrest (Carrie) Pecher, Abbotsford; Patrick (Margaret) Pecher, Madison; and Tina (Jon) Griesbach, Ringle; 4 grandchildren: Kayla Pecher, Mason Pecher, Cody Griesbach, and Kyle Griesbach; and a sister: Geraldine Kulas, Abbotsford.

 

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother; Germaine (Radeztsky) Pecher.

In keeping with Carl's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

John W. "Bill" Rutan


 

John W. "Bill" Rutan, age 74, of Stetsonville, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Colonial Center in Colby under the tender care of hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

 

John was born October 12, 1940, the son of George and Florence (Hemminger) Rutan in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended Abbotsford Area Schools. John was united in marriage to Janice Nehrlich on September 2, 1961 in Abbotsford. They later divorced. He worked as a security guard for Pinkerton in Marshfield and volunteered with the Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Company.

 

John enjoyed bowling, throwing horseshoes, rock hunting, gardening, hunting and fishing salmon on the great lakes. He also loved to teach about blueberries, grapes, apples and was an avid mushroom hunter.

 

John is survived by his two children: Karla (Kevin) James of Dayton, Ohio and Michael Rutan of Roberts; two grandchildren: Ashley Wilson of Hawaii and Brandon Conwell stationed in South Carolina. He is further survived by two sisters: Sandy (Tom) Weiss of Arizona and Lorraine (Phil) Marine of Janesville; other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
