PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: Dale served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953 in the 187th Rakasan Airborne where his rank was Sergeant. He saw active duty in Korea. Dale also served in the Air Force Reserves at the General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. He was a loadmaster on C-119 Cargo Planes. He started at Ladish Corporation in Cudahy working in the inventory control department. Dale then transferred to Houston where he was a purchasing agent. In 1972, they moved to the Medford area where he worked at Weathershield Mfg. as the Purchasing Director until his retirement in 1995. Dale was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. He had 2 Holes In One on the third hole at the Merrill Golf Club. Dale was an avid Winchester Rifle Historian and at one time amassed an extensive Winchester collection.

 

MEMBER OF: Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, VFW in Colby and NRA. He also served on the Medford City Planning Commission Board.

Theresa Trawicki


Theresa Marguerite Trawicki, 99 of Gilman, died Monday,
February 23, 2015 at the Cornell Care Center under the care
of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

 

She was born on January 20, 1916 in Gilman to the late Martin

and Josephine (Ratajczyk) Gonia.

 

Theresa grew up in Gilman and married Edwin Trawicki on July
1, 1939 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The couple
farmed in the town of Aurora and raised their family there.
Theresa was a member of the church choir and rosary society
and was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed cooking, canning,
picking berries but loved spending time with her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by her children, Jim (Peggy) Trawicki of Jump
River, Alvin (Jackie) Trawicki of Evansville, WI, Sylvia (Leland)
Webster of Gilman, Gloria (Myron) Brooks of Jump River, and
Danny (Kim) Trawicki of Gilman, 21 grandchildren, 38 great
grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her parents, her husband, (1987), three
brothers and two sisters.

 

A funeral mass will be at 11AM on Saturday, February 28, 2015
at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father
Madanu Sleeva officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of service
Saturday at the church. Plombon Funeral Service-Gilman
assisted the family with arrangements.

He also worked other sales positions & business ventures. He owned/operated Builders Cove in Medford, Barron Lumber Co. & Engel’s Lighting Company for periods of time. He enjoyed collecting model classic cars, producing cookbooks & how-to-guides, making clocks & was always looking for something new to create.

Phyllis Elaine Jones, age 79, of Abbotsford, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.

 

  Phyllis was born February 17, 1935 to Alfred and Emma (Reid) Koehler in Pierce, Nebraska. She received her education in Pierce Nebraska and was united in marriage to James B. Jones on January 9, 1955 in Pierce, Nebraska.

 

  Phyllis and James owned and operated the Unity Auto Matt in Unity, WI from 1988 to 2011.
She enjoyed gardening, gambling and sewing.

 

  Phyllis is survived by her children; Gordon (Lynn) Jones of Medford, Susan (John) Harpke of Thorp, Alice (Jack) Baxter of Dorchester, Kenneth (Norine) Jones of Sparta, WI, and Cynthia (David) Page of Athens, TX; 14 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 3 brothers; Ervin Koehler, Herman Koehler, and Dennis Koehler, and 3 sisters; Darlene Zautke, Irene Neitzke, and Norma Kollmar.

 

  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; James Jones and sisters; Delores Crow, Elsie Acklie and brother; Clarence Koehler.

 

  The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.

He enjoyed hunting, making maple syrup, his animals and gardening. He was an avid bird watcher.

Arthur "Art" Allen Crass Jr


 

Arthur “Art” Allen Crass, Jr., 76, Medford, died at home on Saturday, February 21, 2015. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford and also from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 25 with Pastor Kris Bjerke-Ulliman officiating.

 

  Art Crass was born on July 11, 1938 in Tomahawk to the late Arthur Crass Sr. and Veronica Crass (Maiden Name: Young). He married Marjorie J. DuPlayee, his high school sweetheart on November 10, 1956 in Tomahawk.

 

  Art was a graduate of Tomahawk High School and after school he served in the Wisconsin National Guard and owned dairy farms in Tomahawk and Rural Medford.
 

  Art enjoyed woodworking, fishing and working at the Crass Sawmill after he retired from dairy farming. He also worked as a rural mail carrier for nearly 15 years. His dog Scoobie was his co-pilot on truck rides. Art was an avid Badger and Brewer fan. He also enjoyed attending games with his family and friends at Camp Randall and Miller Park.

 

  Arthur is survived by his wife, Marjorie “Marge”, his dog Scoobie, and his five children: Linda (Mike) Brandner, Allen (Cindy) Crass, Karen (Mike) Bennett, Daniel (Stacey) Crass and David Crass, 12 Grandchildren: Damon (Sherry) Brandner, Doug (Kristi) Brandner, Kyle (Alysa) Brandner, Jeff (Tonya) Crass, Jackie Crass, Madelyn and Katelyn Bennett, Jake (Callie) Crass, Jordan (Jenn) Crass, Josh (Brenda) Crass, Sam and Theo Crass and 17 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Sherry Thompson, Ron (Jean) Crass, Carol Jarvi and many Nieces and Nephews. In addition to his parents, Art is preceded in death by siblings Barry Young, Sandra (Clifford) Steiber and Ken (Georgeanne) Crass.

Jerry Ray Brandner, 82, of Medford, died on Wednesday February 18, at his home, surrounded by his children and under the care of Hope Hospice. Funeral services and Military Rites for Jerry will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford. Visitation will be held at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel, Friday, February 20, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Brandon & Jaeden Brandner, Logan Wright, Alec & Austin Waldhart, Parker Alsteens, Lucas & Matthew Lekie.

 

  Jerry was born February 16, 1933 in the Town of Chelsea, to the late Carl and Lena (Born) Brandner. He attended Whittlesey Elementary Schools, and was a 1951 Graduate of Medford Senior High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he attended Radio Operator School and served as an International Morse Code Operator on both the B29 and B36 Bomber Aircraft during the Korean War from 1952-1956. He remained on inactive duty for the following four years.After his military career, he married Shelby Jean Vlach on September 14, 1957, in Rib Lake. Shelby preceded him in death in 2008.

 

  He is also preceded by his Parents, and one Daughter, Sharron Marie Brandner, in 2000. In 1961 he built Brandner Deep Rock Gas Station in Medford which from 1961 to 1998 he owned/operated along with Brandner Oil Company.

 

  He was a proud charter member of the Medford Jaycees, Whittlesey Lions Club, and the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He also was a Life Member of the Medford VFW Post 5729 and The Stetsonville American Legion Post 519. He enjoyed Nascar races, Green Bay Packer games, deer hunting activities and stopping by many social establishments in the Whittlesey and Medford area to spread his humor and good cheer.

 

  Jerry is survived his six children: Cheryl Wright, Cindy (Roger) Dray, Dave (Kris) Brandner, Colleen (Todd) Waldhart, Todd (Marlene) Brandner, all of Medford, and Susette (Bill) Alsteens of Belleville, WI, 11 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. His siblings include: Bonnie (late Francis) Fuchs, Ardath (Richard) Dums, Phyllis (late John) Fuchs, Gary (Eileen Mundt) Graham all of Medford, and several nieces and nephews.

Donald R. "Shorty" Schoelzel


 

Donald R. "Shorty" Schoelzel, age 53, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 4-8 for a visitation and from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Friday. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

  Shorty was born on February 3, 1962, the son of Darnell and Janice (Gaetz) Schoelzel in Marshfield, WI. He attended Colby Schools and was a 1980 graduate of Colby High School. He worked for various farms until his employment in 1986 for Kerry Ingredients in Owen, WI and worked there for 29 years until he became ill. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for Kerry Ingredients. Shorty was united in marriage to Rita Heindl on February 14, 2015.

 

  Shorty enjoyed spending his time outdoors, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was a man who liked to ride his snowmobile and four-wheeler. Shorty was a member of the Ripp Riders snowmobile club. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR on TV.

 

  Shorty is survived by his wife; Rita, two children; Brooke (Ray) Krause of Owen, and Britny Schoelzel of Eau Claire, two grandchildren; Trey Schoelzel and Brynleigh Krause. He is further survived by his parents; Darnell and Janice Schoelzel of Colby, a brother and a sister: Duane (Rhonda) Schoelzel of Marathon and Julie Schoelzel of Neillsville; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

  He was preceded in death by a brother, Dave Schoelzel.

David enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling to Florida. He was a veracious reader. He loved spending time with family and friends and also playing with his Golden Retriever, Jewel. David also served in the US Army National Guard.

He then worked for Michel’s Pipeline for 25 years until his retirement. Arthur enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, spending time with his friends and family, watching NASCAR and Western movies. He was well known for his sense of humor and stock car racing.

Harriet A. Hazeldick, age 95, of Abbotsford, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at her home under the tender care of hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2015 at First United Church of Christ in Colby. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Interment will be held in the Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM until time of service Monday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

  Harriet was born on November 19, 1919, the daughter of Sigurd and Bertha (Glitz) Abrahamson in Waukesha County. She attended school in Waukesha County and moved to Milwaukee in 1940 where she was employed.

 

  Harriet was united in marriage to Ray Hazeldick on May 25, 1946 in Wausau. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2008.

 

  Harriet is survived by nieces and nephews and many friends.

 

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents; her two sisters: Karen and Bernice and two brothers: Orville and Gordon.

While in Texas, she volunteered for several in home Hospice Providers and helped patients at their home with daily needs. She enjoyed fishing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Walter J. Engel Sr, age 81, of Abbotsford, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 , under the tender care of hospice at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 9 , 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, WI. Reverend James Babler will officiate. Burial will be held in Saint Peter Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of McMillan. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Military Honors provided by the Stetsonville American Legion Post #519. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

 

  Walter was born on September 2, 1933 the son of August and Olga (Singer) Engel, in Affton, Missouri.

   

  He is a 1951 graduate of Mascoutah High School in Illinois. Walter was united in marriage to Velva Bach on September, 3 1960 in Milwaukee, WI.

 

  Walter entered the US Air Force in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He served during the Korean War. He worked at Maytag in Milwaukee until 1971 when the couple moved to the town of Mayville and worked for Weather Shield in Medford until his car accident on August 30, 1985.

Walter loved to fish and hunt.

 

  Walter is survived by his wife, Velva; 2 children: Walter J. Engel Jr., Salem, OR,
Debera Schneider, Racine, WI grandson; Shawn Tendeland, Oconomowoc, special family: Manuel (Candi) Gamillo, Manny Jr., Sarah and Fransisco Gamillo, two sisters: Darlene Schaperkoetter and Sharon (Charles) Jung of Mascoutah, IL and a brother August (Margarett) Engel of Alaska, sisters-in law; Janet (Jerry) Okane of Madison, Kathy Bach of Chili and a brother-in-law; James Bach of Stratford, three nieces and two nephews and 6 great-nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed going to garage sales and collecting antiques, especially antique glassware. She loved music and Community Theater. Most of all, she had a huge heart for animals, and supported Gentle Hearts. She also supported Stepping Stones in Medford. She thoroughly enjoyed helping anyone out that was in need. One of her proudest moments in her life was when she made a hole-in-one, on the seventh hole at Tee-Hi Golf Course.

Thomas Peter Mayer


Thomas Peter Mayer, 88, of Stetsonville passed away Wednesday February 4th surrounded by his loving family at his house with the help of Hope Hospice. Funeral services will be held Monday February 9th at 1:00pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville with Fr. Gerard Willger and Fr Simon Boyapati officiating.  Visitation from 10:00am until time of service.

 

  Thomas was born in Lankin, ND on July 10, 1926 to the late Joseph and Mary (Bina) Mayer. He worked in the CCC Camps and then joined the Navy and served during WWII. He then moved to Milwaukee and became a baker by trade, met and married Dorothy Voit, who survives. They married June 23, 1951 and farmed until 1978 in Stetsonville. He worked at Weather Shield and also did handyman/wood working and built houses. After retirement he worked for Blume Farms.

 

  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Boxrucker-Berry Stetsonville Legion and Catholic Order of Foresters.

 

  He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Stetsonville, his children, Jeff (Bev) of Stetsonville, Dan (Kathy) of Medford, Greg (Kathy) of New Port Richey, FL, Mary (Greg) Kraemer of Medford, Kris (Brad) Justice of Stetsonville, 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

 

  He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 granddaughter.

 

  In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hope Hospice or to the family to be designated at a later date.  Mid Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family at this time.

James C. Blair


 

James C Blair, 87 city of Medford passed away Friday January 30 2015 at his home. A memorial funeral will be held at the Medford United Methodist Church on February 7. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 with the funeral starting at 11 with Pastor Kyochul Shin officiating followed by full military honors performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Interment of Jim’s cremated remains will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.

Honorary Pallbearers – Eric Vallofskey, Donald Holtman, Stephen Burkhart, Jeremy Karpinske, Jeff Foytek, Brian Zielke II, Bryan & Jonny Blair.

 

  Jim was born on January 27, 1928 in Canoe, Alabama to Era May Parrish and Major Clifton Blair. He graduated from Greenville High School and entered the Merchant Marine for 1 year of service. Jim enlisted in the US Marine Corps serving at the end of World War II prior to enlisting in the Air Force. Jim retired from the Air Force in 1968 after serving 20 years. In the Air Force Jim was a radar technician, a MP and various jobs as a tester and bomb coordinator while serving in the Strategic Air Command. Jim also served stints in the Korean War and Vietnam War as Master Chief in charge of electronic warfare. During his time in service, Jim received many commendations for meritorious service.

 

  Jim married the love of his life, the former Marjorie Taylor in 1954, who survives after 60 years of marriage. Jim was stationed in South Dakota, Mississippi, New Mexico, Kansas, New Hampshire, Thailand, and Eniwetok. From these close knit communities of military families many long lasting friendships formed. There were many visits to friends from across the states that offered a place to vacation during the winter months.

 

  After retirement, Jim worked for General Electric and in Civil Service in Illinois. Jim and Marge opened Blair’s TV and Radio in 1970. Jim also dabbled in politics and served a term as a City of Medford alderman. He continued to barber on the side, a skill he picked up while in the service, along with repairing electronics.

 

  Jim developed a passion for helping disadvantaged and disabled youth. He worked tirelessly to assist young people needing orthopedic surgeries through the Shriners organization. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge OES and ZOR Temple. He also was a member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion military organizations.

 

  Survivors include wife Marge, daughters Debbie (Verlan) Karpinske of Appleton, Wisconsin, Cheryl Foytek of Medford, Wisconsin, Wendy Bockin of Medford, Wisconsin, Cindy (Brian) Zielke of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Son in law James Amo of Appleton, Wisconsin. Surviving sons are James (Kathy) Blair of Waunakee, Wisconsin and Mark (Laurie) Blair of Chicago, Illinois. A sister, Lois Martin of Greenville, Alabama also survives.

 

  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Oleta, brothers, Eugene and Marian, a son Richard and a daughter Tracy Amo.Jim is survived by 13 grandchildren; Jeremy, Shaya, Jeffrey, Jessica, Amanda, Brian, Kaeleigh, Cambria, Cassandra, McKenna, Bryan, Jonathan, and Hailey.

The surviving 10 great grandchildren are Mady, Colin, Taylor, Teegan, Grace, Max, Ruby, Zoe, Alyssa and another to be named later.

 

  Jim is also survived by a very special friend, Pat Schultz, Medford Wisconsin.

 

  Jim loved to garden and play Skip Bo with the family. He was often heard playing tunes on his mandolin, banjo, and harmonica. He was self educated in many facets of technology. He took pride in repairing any and everything including TV’s, CB’s, computers, phones, cars and anything electrical. Jim took up genealogy and traced his heritage back to the Blairs of Scotland.

Dorothy M. Webb


 

Dorothy M. Webb, age 75, of Colby, died on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Rock Falls. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, February 6 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a Rosary Service at 4:00 PM and from 10:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the church.

 

  Dorothy was born August 25, 1939 in Rock Falls, WI, a daughter of the late Adolph and Rose (Bauer) Pichler. She was married to Duane Webb on August 20, 1960. After their marriage they moved to Granada, MN where they stayed for 6 years. They moved to Colby in 1967, where she resided until her death.

 

  She spent most of her life helping others. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Catholic School working in the kitchen, the library, as a substitute teacher, Treasurer and long-time member of the Home and School Association as well as many other school functions. She was very involved at St Mary’s Parish where she was part of the Christian Mothers Society for many years as well as President for 2 years including the year of St. Mary’s Centennial, co-founder of The Bells of St. Mary’s, taught CCD for third grade and high school, was an original member of the Eucharistic Ministry, started the prayer chain that is still active today, planted flowers around the church for many years, attended mass daily when able and was a servant of the Lord doing good will. She was involved with the St. Anthony’s Retreat Center in Marathon where they attended Marriage Encounter, Family Encounter and was part of the Cursillo movement. She also volunteered at Colby Elementary school, the Colonial Center Nursing Home and was an active member of the Colby Lions Club. She worked for the Colby City Clerk’s Office for 19 years until she retired in 2002.

 

  She loved to golf and was a league member for 30 years. She bowled in a couple’s league for nearly 20 years. She was an avid reader, gardener, enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and crocheting, and was noted for her afghans and Christmas ornaments. She also loved spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed playing cards and board games with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

 

  She is survived by her husband Duane; three sons, Dale, Eagan MN, Doug (Shy Ann), Oshkosh, Don (June), Farmington MN and two daughters, Deanna (Bob) Bunkelman, Excelsior MN and Deborah (Peter) Zaske, Stevens Point, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters.

 

  She was preceded in death by two sisters and one miscarried child.
