Christine Schaefer


 

Christine Schaefer, 89, died Saturday afternoon, November 24, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. Christine Bertha Burger was born to Otillie and Joseph Burger on September 27, 1923 in Athens, Wisconsin, the fourth of eleven children.  She attended St. Anthony elementary school in Athens and graduated from Athens High School in 1942.  Christine was united in marriage to Werner Joseph Schaefer on January 31, 1948. Christine and Werner raised a family of ten children on their farm, located three miles west of Milan.  She followed a strict routine of grocery shopping every Thursday and baking on Saturday.  Known for her sweet rolls and bread, her other cooking talents are celebrated in a family cookbook of her recipes.  She was a member of the St. Thomas Altar Society at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan.  Embroidery, crossword puzzles, playing cribbage and bowling were her favorite hobbies.  She participated in state and national bowling tournaments.  Baseball was Kris’ favorite spectator sport.  She watched Werner pitch for the Milan team, and then enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers. 

 

Christine is survived by her children, Maxine (Bryce) Luchterhand, Unity; Karen (Richard) Verschay, Greenwood; Kevin Schaefer, Spooner;  Joette (Mike) Lulloff, Owen; Jon (Kathy) Schaefer, Stratford; Jeffry (Rebecca) Schaefer, Abbotsford; Jay (Cathy) Schaefer, Manchaca, Texas; Merlin Schaefer, Colby;  Jamie (Diane) Schaefer, Wausau; Kimberly (Dennis) Kusiak, Fenwood; 33 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by three sisters Agnes Gianoli, Cecilia Johnson, Theresa David, and one brother, David (Marilyn).  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant daughters, three sisters Marie, Sylvia and Janice, three brothers Joseph, Leonard and George, one infant grandson and an infant great-grandson.

 

Visitation will be at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford from 4 – 8 PM Friday, November 30 with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM.  There will also be visitation from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan, Saturday, December 1.  Funeral services will begin at the church at 10:30 AM with Reverend Charles Hiebl officiating.  Pall bearers will be Kris’ six sons. Interment will be in the Milan Cemetery. 

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to Ministry Home Care – Hospice and sent to Hospice Donations, 303  W. Upham St., Marshfield, WI  54449.

Guy Justice


 

Guy E Justice, 76, of Westboro, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Aspirus Hospital.

He was born February 17, 1936 to Mack and Stella (Bentley) Justice in Wolfpit, Kentucky. Guy graduated from Virgie High School and joined the Air Force. He moved to Chicago and worked in a factory where he met Myrtha Peterson. They were married December 4, 1961. Guy and Myrtha later moved to Westboro where he worked at Weathershield Vinyl Division until retirement. Guy was a proud member of VFW Post 7817 Premeau Schauss. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, going to casinos, spending time with his family, and watching the Chicago Bears and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Guy is survived by his wife Myrtha, his son Bradley (Kris) of Stetsonville, his daughter Kimberly Klemm of Medford, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother Goebel (Romaina) of Frankfort, Kentucky, four sisters Yvonne Schmidt of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Fern (Lowell) Keene of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Naomi (David) Kinney of Peru, Indiana, and Judy of Rodchester, New York, and other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Don Mack killed in Viet Nam, a son-in-law Dean Klemm, and three brothers-in-law John Coleman, Sam Batts, and Cal Schmidt.

 

Memorial services will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of Westboro. Pastor Bob Giese officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full Military Honors will follow by The United States Air Force Honors Team and VFW Post 7817 Premeau Schauss. Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family. Shirley Krause


 

Shirley N. Krause, age 86 of Stetsonville, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012 at her residence with her husband and children by her side with assistance from Ministry Home Care Hospice.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester.  Rev. Daniel Hackel will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Dorchester Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church in Dorchester from 9:30 AM until the time of service.  Acting as her pallbearers will be Casey Krause, Neal Franz, Jason Krause, Peter Graff, Mike Graff, Adam Graff and Alex Graff.

Shirley was born November 9, 1926 in Dorchester to the late William and Caroline (Skrivani) Tischendorf.  She attended Bruckerville Country School and  Dorchester High School. She married Robert Graff, Sr. on May 1, 1945. He preceded her in death.  On June 27, 1992 Shirley was married to Ernst Krause.  He survives. One of Shirley’s hobbies was dancing and this is how she met her second husband Ernest, while dancing at the Eagles Club in Marshfield. One of Shirley’s memorable quotes was “Rather Dance than Eat.”

 

Other hobbies included flower gardening, playing cards, photography, and baking bread.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a former member of the St Louis PCCW.

 

She is lovingly survived by her dear husband Ernst of Stetsonville;  her children: Mary (John) Redd of Florida; Nancy (David) Jenks of Florida; Joanne (Butch) Firnstahl of Medford; Edward (Kathy) Graff of Stetsonville; Daniel (Barbara) Graff of Stetsonville; Sarah (Tom) Sestito of Florida; John (Maureen) Graff of Medford; and Timothy Graff of Dorchester; her stepchildren: Nancy (Robert) Genack of Brookfield; Linda Reich of Spencer; James (Jane) Krause of Spencer; Dennis Krause of Spencer; Susan (James) Kleinschmidt of Spencer; Kathy (Kim) Rice of Marshfield; Wilbur (Annette) Krause of Spencer and Randy (Carol) Krause of Spencer.  Shirley is further survived by 20 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 24 step grandchildren and 24 step great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.

 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Robert Sr., an infant son, Robert Jr., three brothers and one sister.

Marvin Steinmetz


 

Marvin E. Steinmetz, age 83, of Curtiss, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012, at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, surrounded by family.

 

Marvin was born April 19, 1929, to Henry and Anne (Wagner) Steinmetz in Stanley. He received his education at Edson Public School. He married Roselyn Janssen in 1951 (later divorced). Before owning and operating a dairy farm outside of Colby, Marvin owned his own milk route, worked at a luggage factory, was briefly a manager at Harmony Feed Mill, and worked in carpentry for UBC in Colby. After farming, he was a school bus driver and began enjoying his retirement.

 

He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, gardening, doing yardwork with his Cub tractor, and trying his luck (again and again) with scratch-off lottery tickets.

 

Marvin is survived by his beloved partner, Kathy Friday of Curtiss; his children Brian (Sheila) Steinmetz of Dorchester, Karen Hawk (Keith Hogue) of Marshfield, Kerry (Cathy) Steinmetz of Marshfield, Kay Steinmetz of Syracuse, NY, and Kim (Gary) Decker of Dorchester; and eight grandchildren (Nathan, Annie, Chad, Sara, Jennifer, Corey, Justin, and Megan), two great-grandchildren (Alden and Sophia); and extended family members Jennifer and Jason Friday. He is further survived by his brothers Kenneth (late Donna) Steinmetz and Henry (Rosemary) Steinmetz; his sisters Joan (Don) Willam, Betty (late Duane) Smasal, Caroline (late Rich) Eslinger, and Eileen O`Donnell.

 

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marie Ruhe, and his son Kevin.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A rosary will be held at 9 AM, with visitation following until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

Lucille Wild


 

Lucille E. Wild, age 80, of Abbotsford, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 15, 2012 as a result of a vehicle accident.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Dan Hackel will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Monday, November 19, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a rosary at 4 PM and on Tuesday at the church in Abbotsford from 10 AM until the time of services. Burial will follow the service at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Little Black.

 

Lucille was born February 4, 1932 to Mason and Elsie (Ludwig) Maxam in Medford. After graduating from Medford High School she attended Medford Normal School and received a degree in teaching. She taught at a school house in the Township of Holton and later was a substitute teacher. Lucille and Jack Wild were joined in marriage on June 20, 1956 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. They lived in the town of Little Black in Taylor County. In 1961, Jack and Lucille started the Abbotsford Oil Co. in Abbotsford. They moved to Abbotsford in 1963 where they continued to be the owner/operators of the Abbotsford Oil Co. for 42 years. Lucille was the bookkeeper for the business.

 

She was a member of St. Bernard’s Altar Society, Abbotsford Library Board, and a past member of the Marathon County Library Board. Lucille was an avid gardener and she enjoyed wood working. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Lucille is survived by her two children: Debra Wild-Yaron of Abbotsford and Donald (Cheryl) Wild of Weston; her grandchildren: Jason (Sheila) Wild, Zach (Tara) Wild, Andy Wild, and DJ Wild; two great grandchildren: Kendall and Cooper; and one sister: Dorothy (Gordon) Schultz of Mesa, AZ.

 

Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jack.

Anthony Zak


 

Anthony “Tony” Zak, age 88, of Little Black, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at House of the Dove Hospice in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 16, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. A visitation will be held Friday from 9:30AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Stetsonville.

 

Tony was born February 6, 1924 to Joseph and Julia (Siska) Zak in Little Black. He received his education from Dorchester Schools. Tony and Elizabeth Becker were joined in marriage on May 26, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp and then in 1941 he began work for Soo Line Railroad as a section foreman until retirement in 1986.

 

Tony was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed going to auctions, spending time outdoors, gardening, and hunting.

 

Tony is survived by his sons: James Zak of Stetsonville, Thomas (Melissa) Zak of Stetsonville and Joseph Zak of Stetsonville; his grandchildren: Tonya, Heather, Antonia, James Jr, Chris, Jennifer, Chelsea, Megan, Jordan and Holly. He is further survived by his brothers: Victor (Elizabeth) Zak of Abbotsford and Michael Zak of Stetsonville; and his sisters: Ann Gerlich of Chicago and Margaret (Clifford) Stevens.

 

Tony is preceded in death by his siblings: Frank, Rudy, and Irene.

OF     Golden Living Center, Rib Lake, WI; A former Town of Rib Lake resident

 

WHO DIED: 11:45 AM Sunday, November 11 at Golden Living Center, Rib Lake where she had resided for the past 4 months

 

SURVIVORS INCLUDE:  CHILDREN:  Daughter – Nancy Schabel of Milwaukee

Sons – David (Jane) Zondlo of Weston, WI & Ed (Mary) Zondlo of Rib Lake

 

GRANDCHILDREN:   10     GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN:  16 

 

SURVIVING BROTHERS/SISTERS:  Step-Sister:  Grace Kohler of Spencer

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR    ROSE M. ZONDLO         

 

WILL BE:  11:00 AM on Thursday, November 15 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake

 

WITH       Father Otto Bucher & Deacon Mark Priniski         OFFICIATING

 

BURIAL WILL BE AT:  Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake, WI

 

FRIENDS MAY CALL AT:  Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake from 4:00 PM until the time of Rosary Services at 7:15 PM on Wednesday, November 14, also from 10 AM until the time of funeral mass at 11 AM on Thursday, November 15

Richard Hamelund


Richard Hamelund 75 of Bruce, died on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Clair.  He is survived by his wife Patricia and his 4 sons:  Randy of Medford, Rick of Kansas, Buck of Alaska, Troy of Michigan, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Step-Children.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at the Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Bruce at 2pm with Rev. Mark Bartlett officiating.  The Hamelund Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 1pm until service.
