Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial mass will take place at 11:00 AM, Thursday October 11, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Father Phil Juza officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held that morning at church from 9:30 AM until the time of mass at 11:00. Urnbearers will be MJ, Alex and Ben Zenner.
Melvin was born March 11, 1928 at his family farmstead home in the Town of Hammel to Joseph and Laura (Federspeil) Zenner. He attended the Town of Cleveland Schools. On August 16, 1949, Melvin married Geraldine M. Kalmon, who survives, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They enjoyed 69 years of life together.
Melvin owned and operated his dairy farm in the Town of Hammel for his entire life. He had a passion for mechanics and machinery and was a collector of John Deere 2 cylinder tractors. He enjoyed traveling to Montana to visit family and helping with their wheat farms. He liked running their farm machinery, as it was bigger than his equipment. He loved listening to polka music, and socializing, especially over a game of cards. Melvin spent a lot of time with his grandsons and enjoyed watching them grow up. He was passionate about teaching his boys about farming, and instilling in them traits like perseverance, hard work and the love of family. Most recently, you could find him sitting on a stool in the garage, or riding in a car with his boys, all while giving them words of wisdom as they began their own custom agriculture adventures.
Melvin was the father of Joseph (Renee) Zenner of Medford. He was the proud and loving grandfather to Melvin “MJ” (Brittany) Zenner, Alex (Katie) Zenner both of Medford, Benjamin Zenner of Wausau, and granddaughter Joelle Zenner of Medford. Melvin loved his great-grandsons, Mason and Garrett Zenner and looked forward to their visits at the farm. Melvin was very close to his niece, JoAnne (Delmar) Smith of Medford.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Leona Hadderman.
Melvin was of the Catholic faith, and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Memorial donations in honor of Melvin can be given to the Holy Rosary Catholic School or can be given to the family for future designation.
