Richard L. Thums 1942-2017


  Richard L. Thums, of Rib Lake, passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017. Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Fr. Otto Bucher will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Historic St. Ann’s Cemetery in the Town of Greenwood.

  Richard was born March 3, 1942 in the township of Greenwood, Rib Lake, to Leonard and Lorraine (Griffin) Thums. Richard served in the Army from 1962 until 1965, where much of his time was spent in Korea and Germany. 

  He drove truck his entire working life; in the early years for Consolidated Frieghtways, later in partnership with his brother, Robert, and then as an owner/operator for Millis Transfer from 1982 until his retirement in 2009.

  He enjoyed visiting with friends and Sunday morning brunches with his family.  Richard was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake.

  He is survived by three sisters, Arlene Fallos of Rib Lake, Alice Corbisier of Cudahy and Phyllis (Michael) Kolecheck of Rib Lake; a brother Robert (Sandra) Thums, Rib Lake, together with many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.  Richard is also survived by his little buddy Deklyn. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas Thums, and brothers-in-law, Claude Fallos and Francis Corbisier.

  The Cremation Society of Wisconsin assisted the family with the arrangements.
