Nioma A. Miskanis, age 83, of Owen, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. A memorial service will be at 11:00AM Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Withee. Reverend Tom Myhre will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from10:00AM until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Withee following the service.
Nioma was born February 24, 1931 in Thorp, WI to Peter and Houlda (Meyer) Turrene. She attended a catholic grade school in Chicago until eighth grade. Nioma did manufacture work and was a butcher’s assistant in Chicago. The former Nioma Turrene was united in marriage to Robert Miskanis on October 12, 1951 in Chicago, IL. Together the couple moved to a farm in the Town of Longwood, Clark County, near Owen in 1976 and farmed until 1998. Nioma enjoyed animals of all kinds, cooking and canning. Her home was always open to all and served as a refuge from the city for many family members. She was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Withee and its Ladies Aide.
She is lovingly survived by her five grandchildren; Robert (Beki) Miskanis of Chippewa Falls, Katy (Mike) Shoup of Marathon City, Sarah Miskanis of Marshfield, Laura (Doug) Arthur of Sheboygan and Amanda Miskanis of Stratford, her great-grandchildren; Logan, Sophia, Samuel and Brenna, daughter-in-law; Betsy (Brent) Shoup of Neillsville. She is further survived by her siblings; Glen Turrene, Bernice Turrene, Inez Haas and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Nioma is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Robert Miskanis , her three children; David, Keith and Debbie Miskanis and her siblings; Alice Gdula, Bud Turrene, Harvey Turrene, Violet Hendricks, Orma Lorbeck,Verna Grabowski, Erna Turrene, Frieda Dumalski and Louis Turrene.
