Failure To Pump Septic System Could Get Expensive 11/16/17
Rural landowners are faced with new state regulations regarding maintenance of their septic systems. Every 3 years septic owners need to provide a pumping certificate to the county zoning office to show that their septic was pumped by a certified hauler. At a meeting of the Taylor County Zoning Committee Kyle Noonan told the committee that this summer a total of 629 septic notices were mailed to rural landowners requesting the pumping certificate receipt. Nearly 90% complied with 65 of the 629 landowners failing to respond to a second notice.
Next those 65 landowners will be receiving a zoning citation in the mail. When court costs are tacked on to the fine, the total citation cost for failure to provide a septic pumping receipt will be $389.50. In addition to paying the fine, the individual will still need to have a certified hauler pump their septic. The citations for failure to comply will be sent out the beginning of December.
